Product description
Cats have always played a special role at Tecta. Karlchen the cat is "the real boss of Tecta," says Axel Bruchhäuser. And so it was Karlchen who contacted British architects Alison & Peter Smithson with a letter to Snuff the cat. The two architects then designed a house for "a man and a cat", a witch's house in the forest, into which they moved 45 years ago.
Meanwhile, the fifth generation of Kater Karlchen made their home here and finally dedicated a worthy symbol to their cat: Kater Karlchen made made of wood, painted black and with yellow eyes. Design by Dominik Kirgus from Studio für Gestaltung in Cologne. Initially, the cat was intended only as an artwork for the Tecta exhibition in Japan, but the Japanese have developed such a great enthusiasm for the history and the animal that Karlchen now appears as a sculpture on silent paws.
Special feature: Dominik Kirgus traced the form from the Bauhaus, using reduced circles and lines that give Karlchen its linear appearance. The round hump shows that, like all male cats, it has a mind of its own. Add to this the sparkling yellow eyes - the character looks like it just came out of a Grimm's fairy tale.
