Product description

The Quaderna collection - designed by Superstudio in the years 1969-1972, produced by Zanotta since 1972 and considered the manifesto of the Radical Design collection - is expanded with three completely new products that expand the functionality and types of products covered by the checkered furniture range: mirror, low cabinet for storage in the living room and one cabinet.
The Quaderna mirror is inspired by the sculptural module "Measuring Mirror", which the group's architects used to study the impact of a continuous and potentially infinite supersurface. The 5 mm thick flat glass is placed around the perimeter in a 51 x 15 x 195 cm Print white laminated wood frame, digitally printed with black squares at 3 cm spacing. The mirror stands on the floor and is attached to the wall. Quaderna series products are the result of a highly industrialized process and, at the same time, impeccable craftsmanship. The checkered laminate was specially created by Print based on the Superstudio design and has an isotropic checkered pattern with a center-to-center distance of 3 cm. The mesh is produced using digital printing, which causes a slight change in the distance between the centers of the lines, which means that it is necessary to create a body to cover that is not perfectly orthogonal so that all the lines on either side align optically. Pieces of laminate are applied individually in a specific order. This handmade task requires extraordinary craftsmanship and uses an inlay technique that requires many hours of work to produce a single piece of furniture. Each Quaderna object comes from a single sheet of laminate, so that the distance between centers is the same, although with a slight shift of a few tenths of a centimeter: only in this way do the checkerboard surfaces turn out to be continuous in the three dimensions determined by the Cartesian axes in accordance with the original design. The convergence of the grid lines determines the overall uniformity of the surface and gives the furniture a strong personality as it is visually marked at the corners. The difficulty in assembling all the connectors with millimeter precision makes it impossible to detach the legs from the tabletop even during transport. Additional complexity, but necessary to maintain the uniqueness of the original idea.
