Product description

wooden chair in the full sense of the word - one of the flagship elements of the cooperation between Gio Ponti, Cesare Cassina and the company's carpentry experts - has a new external version. An icon that has evolved over time, remaining true to its original design and the principles of lightness and functionality that have shaped its archetypal ethos, Leggera comes out in a version made using cutting-edge technology, used here for the first time. The wooden version challenged the experience and skills of Cassina's carpentry shop, trying to reduce the chair's structure to its essence. Similarly, the same lightness and purity of Leggery is expressed in a material suitable for outdoor use: stainless steel. To achieve this, Cassina borrowed the manufacturing process of Formula 1 cars. Key, in-depth research and development studies led to the use of hydroforming, a construction technique used in the single-seater chair, to precisely recreate the original chair model, maintaining its distinctive aesthetics and characteristic lightness. Unlike traditional casting techniques, this complex method stretches a thin curved steel tube from its interior outward, giving the structure its shape. In a series of processes, each tube is placed in a closed form, where, under the influence of the pressure exerted by the liquid inside, it is compressed and formed, filling its shape. The individual elements are then carefully welded together.
Leggera Outdoor is available in three colors: ivory, mud and green. The seat is available in both mud and woven cord, and for added comfort, optional upholstered seat and back cushions are available.
Thanks to the work carried out by Cassina LAB, the Leggera Outdoor chair can be completely dismantled and all its components are recycled at the end of a product's lifecycle, ensuring a more eco-friendly and respectful approach to the environment.
