The collaboration between Ethimo and Mattia Albicini resulted in Agave, a collection of tables and chairs whose lines draw inspiration from the sinuous forms of the leaves of the titular plant. The solid teak that forms part of this family has been carefully crafted by Ethimo to replicate the soft movements, thin profiles and silky surface of Agave. Then, just as leaves allow water to flow over their surface, Mattia Albicini's design has shallow grooves on the symmetry lines that function as a drainage system as well as an elegant decorative detail. The wood was carved in this way to enliven the furniture with an elegant "seriousness", extremely pleasant to the touch and to look at.
"Thanks to Agave - recalls designer Mattia Albicini - I wanted to create a collection in which the priority is comfort and which was at the same time elegant and refined. His design combines various influences, past and present. The past comes from reproducing the organic forms of furniture from the 1950s, the present from the originality of design and material research combined with the refined technology used to process solid teak wood, the fruit of Ethimo's extensive experience. I would like this collection to be the choice of everyone who wants to enrich the outdoor space with the taste and sophistication of interior design.”
