1x Rodo D3 cushion Ø30 roundFlex combines a world of contrasts: agile yet strong, this collection has a light, elegant aluminum frame combined with the warmth of a handcrafted wood finish. Flex carefully balances old and new to give pieces their distinctive characteristics. The unique shape of the oval legs makes the Flex sofa a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture that will arouse long-lasting recognition.
Created in cooperation with the Milan-based design studio Metrica, Flex combines traditional aesthetics with modern elements to evoke an atmosphere of nostalgia and lightness.
The Flex concept is a combination of wood and aluminum and the different sensations that both materials evoke. While the elegant cast metal creates a strong and sober foundation for the design, the wood evokes a feeling of comfort and warmth. Flex will be available in two versions: natural teak and nero teak. Both can be combined with soft cushions in warm color combinations.
In its most basic version, Flex is a suspended sofa that consists of modular and fixed elements. The main elements are cast aluminum legs. At the upper level of the sofa, they connect to a solid wood profile that serves as an armrest and support for the backrest cushions. At the bottom, the legs are attached to a wood-covered construction platform. The wood of the platform cover, armrests and backrest have the same finish.
Aluminum legs, which give character and lightness to the entire structure, are characterized by a unique design. Robin Rizzini, lead designer and partner at Metrica: “Instead of choosing the standard cylindrical shape, we opted for an exclusive form that is crucial to the overall feel of the Flex sofa. Starting with a cylindrical shape, the legs gradually turn into rounded triangles, which eventually turn into an oval shape to connect to the backrest.
The nero teak Flex version adds an extra touch of luxury thanks to the additional handcrafting required. The teak wood is sanded, brushed and hand-worked using a special technique that supports the structure and creates an eye-catching alternation of glossy and matte black surfaces. As a result, the black tones exude just the right amount of elegance, drama and power, perfectly balancing pleasure and sophistication.
