ANDY'S CACTUS is an iconic Gufram clothes rack made in a limited edition in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, available in blue, pink and yellow.
The collaboration between Gufram and Andy Warhol is a transcription of the vision of the greatest pop artist into one one of the most eccentric design icons of all time. A nonconformist who defied convention and forged his own path, the artist used the language of popular culture to transcend established images into sophisticated concepts - an ethos that is reflected in Gufram's work. ANDY'S BLUE CACTUS, ANDY'S PINK CACTUS and ANDY'S YELLOW CACTUS, each produced in a limited edition of 99 pieces, are the perfect translation of Andy Warhol's artwork into expressive multiples.
Like other versions of CACTUS, the ANDY WARHOL x GUFRAM Edition, presented with celebrating the 50th anniversary of the world-famous hall tree, it was made from the original mold from 1972, then carved and hand-finished by specialized craftsmen, making each piece unique. The 2,165 polyurethane protrusions (you can add several) that characterize the surface are then painted with Guflac, a patented Gufram paint that makes the surface look like leather while retaining its elasticity and softness.
New CACTUS limited editions, expressive, full of character and definitely eye-catching, they are a celebration of the values that guide the Foundation: supporting challenging works, promoting freedom of artistic expression and appreciating experimental artistic practice. Just as Warhol's creative vision knew no boundaries and continues to inspire each new generation of creators, CACTUS is also a confirmation of Gufram's avant-garde thinking, his desire to push the boundaries of industrial design, his non-conformist experiments related to aesthetic, technological and material research, and his radical design spirit. The cactus is an icon of Italian design that revolutionized the national landscape. Made of flexible polyurethane, this four-supported hall tree is as tall as a person and looks like an ironic totem.
Created in 1972, it has been handmade and painted ever since. Over the years, Cactus has been produced in several color versions and many limited and numbered editions that have been exhibited in the most important museums around the world.
