Konstantin Grcic's Rival Chair represents a fresh approach to the wooden chair. The legs are milled from a single piece of solid birch, giving them a fluid quality more reminiscent of molded plastic than wood. The KG002 backrest provides support during long periods of sitting, while the lower part of the KG001 backrest provides a high degree of flexibility, defining the sitter's range of motion. Both the armrests and the backrests are made of embossed birch slats. Rival is the first Artek chair with a swivel function; The upholstered seat, available in a variety of fabrics and colors, conceals a clever aluminum "knot" that rests in a polypropylene "socket", allowing circular movement. The graceful lines of the Rival chair mean it can be effortlessly swiveled from the office to the dining room table.
