Materials
Through hundreds of samples, tests and iterations, we arrived at three carefully selected, overall material expressions. Graphite is the darkest, modern version of the original Aeron. Carbon offers a balanced neutral shade that works equally well in warm and cool environments. Mineral is the lightest version, ideal for today's more open office environments.
Aeron's satin aluminum finish, created through a unique painting process, provides a shine reminiscent of high-end electronic equipment. The colors have been designed to match the other elements of the chair. Details like these make for a product worthy of the Aeron name, but it's not enough. Every detail makes up a coherent whole. When designers Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick set out to create a chair that was health-friendly, multi-functional, inclusive and environmentally friendly, they achieved a design the likes of which the world had never seen before. Aeron took a pioneering step in ergonomics and material innovation and provided a comfortable solution without the standard use of foam, fabric or leather.
It changed people's perception of what an office chair could be - and in doing so, it soon found a place in the culture popular.
Fast forward to the present, and the same criteria form the basis for the all-new Aeron. Although its iconic form has remained largely unchanged, the Aeron chair has been remastered from the wheels to the needs of today's work and workers. With the help of original co-designer Don Chadwick, we have carefully modernized the chair based on the latest seating research and advances in materials, manufacturing and technology.
In the new Aeron chair, we have incorporated technological and ergonomic improvements over two decades designed to improve health-friendly design and expanding the range of mutual performance possibilities. With updates that include a more refined tilt mechanism, adjustable PostureFit SL™ suspension and 8Z Pellicle® suspension, the new Aeron performs better than ever - so you can too.
The ocean-plastic Aeron is now available in Onyx. Aeron coming soon with ocean plastic in mineral, carbon and graphite colors.
