(CEE) bulbs: A++ / A+ / A / B / C / D / E.Bela were designed by Doshi Levien in 2017 as a new outdoor material in the Kettal material palette. Designed primarily as a textile material for use on furniture, Doshi Levien saw an opportunity to illuminate the 17 different colors of Bela ropes, creating lamps for outdoor use.
The idea was to make a lamp from a continuous section of rope in a form referring to the texture and lightness of traditional, hand-woven lanterns. Every year in India there is a kite festival, and the streets are lined with huge, spinning frames wrapped in colorful kite string. These light wooden structures gave Doshi Levien the idea for frames or spools to which Bela ropes are attached.
Bela lamps are colorful, versatile and can be placed directly on the floor, hung or used as a floor lamp.
