Lamps from the CILINDRE collection were originally created in 1966, during the period when designers associated with the ADI-FAD association tried to establish a new profession, primarily within a functional and austere style, free from unnecessary decorations. The lampshade is the essence of the lamp, the main element that disperses light, complemented by a structure, a bracket or a mechanism enabling the placement of this light source in space. Wanting to distinguish what is essential from what is complementary, the designers decided that the lampshade would be everything, dispensing with the rest of the traditionally established design complements, such as the foot and the base, in order to generate a single volume that would encompass all functions.
In the 2022 version, in order to give the whole thing more warmth, we added a subtle ash wood profile at the back, in which a lamp socket can be placed and replace the original methacrylate element that performed this function.
Joan Miró and Josep Lluís Sert, painter and architect , understood this conceptual synthesis and chose Cilindre lamps to illuminate the different spaces in their Ibiza homes, due to their light dispersion and integration with this clean and rationalistic architecture.
