Product description
The archetype among desk lamps is the tradition-rich Midgard lamp with a spring balance. The lamp, whose original design from the 1950s has not been changed for decades, is today again manufactured in Hamburg. Using original tools for the production of lamps, the owners of the historic lamp brand put a lot of heart into making this revival possible. The principle of spring-balanced parallel arms that conceal the cable is an ingenious and time-honored design. After Midgard founder Curt Fischer had already set the first milestone in the history of directional lighting with a 1919 patent for an adjustable wall-mounted arm, his son, Wolfgang Fischer, devoted himself to perfecting the design of the spring-balanced parallelogram arm. From that point on, Midgard continued to produce the lamp in the town of Auma in Thuringia, from where it was delivered to countless desks around the world.
The Spring-Balanceed Lamp stands out for its individually adjustable light source: thanks to both a flexible two-arm design whose design and mechanism refer to directly onto the human arm, and with a reflector that can be adjusted to your liking, the light is directed exactly where it is needed: a principle that, from the very beginning, has been part of Midgard's philosophy. The key advantages of the Fischer lamp design are maintenance-free joints and springs, which guarantee reliable flexibility and stability even after intensive use. Today, this timeless lamp is available in both floor and table versions, with clamp or base, and in powder-coated metal in white or black (on request also in all RAL colors and in small batches). All parts are manufactured in Germany and the lamps are hand-assembled in Hamburg.
Engineer and inventor of directional light Curt Fischer founded the Midgard lamp factory in 1919.
In January 2017, the official resumption of production took place. Midgard began with the re-edition of the Midgard modular range (Midgard TYP 500 and TYP 550). The Midgard portfolio was also complemented by the re-edition of the legendary Spring-balanced Lamp and the classic Bauhaus TYP 113 directional lamp, whose biggest fan in the 1920s was none other than Walter Gropius.
