Wax, Stone, Light is a table lamp designed by Linde Freya Tangelder.
In 2022, Cassina launched the Patronat project, which aims to cultivate young international talents, support culture and develop creative ideas. The first chapter featured the debut of Antwerp-based designer Linde Freya Tangelder, who, thanks to the company's support, created limited edition works for her first solo exhibition at Carwan Gallery in Athens. These collectibles were the basis of her inspiration for the Soft Corners pieces developed for the Cassina collection last year, and continue to be the inspiration for her work on the new Cassina Lighting collection.
Wax, Stone, Light develops Linde's original idea of sculptural blocks placed precariously one on the other, in a seemingly unstable architectural column. Fascinated by liquid materials that change form, becoming solid, the designer began to experiment with glass to discover the many aspects of this fascinating material, playing with transparency, touch and light to create not only an object, but also an atmosphere.
The collection includes five totemic columns of different sizes made of Murano glass cubes that were blown by artisans in cast iron molds. Defined by irregular forms, the surface of each block is hand-treated with wax to create its unique shape. Arranged vertically one on top of the other, they are connected by a central LED tube, which illuminates the whole with warm light thanks to an off-white or smoky gray finish.
