The Duo lamp was designed by André Ricard with "executive desks" in mind, not only for good, focused light when viewing extensive documentation, but also for the fact that when visitors face people sitting in the trustees' office, the chairs should not be obscured by a large or ostentatious lampshade. The Duo meets both of these goals seamlessly. It illuminates proximity and does not disturb the visual horizon. It consists of two symmetrical and opposite elements, yin and yang, which complement each other with a perfect sense of proportion. The light output can be adjusted by independently rotating the glass shades, which can be opaque to focus the light on the work surface, or translucent to provide more general illumination. A prominent button located in the narrow, central body functions as a switch for both functions. It was produced in the 1970s and was discontinued in the 1980s due to the onslaught of new halogen lamps that attempted to emulate the worldwide success of Richard Sapper's Tizio. Today, thanks to the comfort and efficiency of LED technology, the Duo shape makes more sense than ever. The 2023 final edition, in collaboration with the author, improves aesthetics and user functionality wherever it is used.
