Iconic semantics meet Dadaist nods in Studio Job's ode to the subway, bringing a boldly poetic aura to Slamp's historic masterpiece, first produced in the early '90s. The collection of 7 extravagant lamps is illuminated by a strong, surreal identity born of creative expression: Labirynt, Love Peace Joy, Perished, Peace Skull, Faena Art, Bananas, L'Afrique. Luscious smiling lips, dancing animal skeletons, pop art fruits, Renaissance references and superstitious fears are all part of an iconic everyday life, seemingly disordered, yet perfectly recognizable thanks to a series of graphic design principles (symmetries, watermarks, and layering). The works of Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel are characterized by extraordinary attention to detail, which makes each piece unique. Painted, rounded profiles, matching or contrasting hemispherical buttons in dominant colors, and specially designed wire covers are just some of the various details used to complement their designs. Dense metaphorical suggestions, transposed iconic references and two-dimensional forms gain depth when printed on transparent Cristalflex® applied to an Opalflex® layer that evenly transmits light. The result is pure extremism, and Tubes is a complete work of art, bathed in semantics, extracted from the "cabinet of curiosities" faithful to the cool style of Studio Job.
