The Aare Gorge in Switzerland is a testament to natural erosion, shaped by the last ice age. Here, a river flowing from melting glaciers, once carved deep into the rock, cutting into its core. In this way, light gradually began to penetrate the cracks among the ancient limestone layers. The manual erosion technique used in the Aare sheet is its modern echo, reproducing the natural appearance of the rock along its surface. With a central slot, these wall sconces take on the archetypal form of Earth's geography carved in ice, recreating its prehistoric beauty as if they too were carved centuries ago.
