Product description

Emily I is an LED hanging lamp made of steel sheet. This model has an asymmetric shape. It is kept in balance thanks to the weight inside the lampshade.
Technical data:
1x E27 220V or E26 120V
Materials:
Painted steel lampshade
PMMA lampshade ( matte)
Textile cable
Finishes:
Black gray semi-matt (RAL 7021) / White semi-matte (RAL 9003) / Deep black high gloss (RAL 9005)
Emily is made of steel sheet due to its solidity and beautiful aging properties. The shades are formed, welded, sanded and spray-painted by hand in a complex process that has proven to be the best way to create natural, organic shapes. In the high-gloss version, the metal is painted in up to 10 layers, creating an extremely deep, black finish - a process similar to that used on high-end grand pianos. The lampshades are covered with matte plexiglass, which ensures a beautiful, diffused light distribution regardless of the bulb used.
Concept
Emily's source of inspiration is the work of Andreas Gursky. In his series "James Bond Islands" he shows a digitally arranged group of islands in Thailand that seem to be floating in the ocean, although in reality they are, of course, only mountain tops. The shape of these islands is quite heterogeneous, but they all form a family united by an organic, somewhat pyramidal shape. From a distance, the ocean appears to be a perfectly flat surface that "cuts" these shapes into the bottom. The idea was to take these islands out of the ocean and create lampshades that float in the space/room. If they hung at the same height, it should be possible to create a vague impression of a mountain landscape that loses contact with the ground.
There was no other way to implement this idea than to build these shapes out of metal, which was an obvious choice for long-established pendant lights due to their sturdiness and beautiful aging properties. This turned out to be a difficult task to accomplish on a small scale, as large and very expensive stamping or deep drawing tools are usually needed to produce such shapes. The solution was to take a deeper look at the production of metal-free parts along the lines of the automotive industry 70-00 years ago. Finally, the metal shades are cut, bent, formed, welded and sanded by hand in a complex process to achieve natural, organic shapes.
