Egbert-Jan Lam from the Dutch studio Burojet Design Studio created Stitches, a family of two well-stitched pendants. Each light, named Djenné and Bamako (after cities in Mali), has its own distinct pattern. The veneers are sewn using the traditional sewing method: by tracing a pattern, cutting it out and repeating it, thus creating an individual lamp. Light shines through the visible trim of Stitches lamps, cleverly imitating the decorative stitching found in fabric.
The shape of each Stitches lamp references the adobe mosques found throughout the West African nation of Mali. Moreover, Mali has a long history as an embroidery manufacturer, which is embodied by Stitches.
