Using an ingenious mechanism inspired by the art of watchmaking, three metal rods were inserted into the ball, thus creating a frame supporting the glass ball. Movable rods open inside the diffuser and, thanks to the highest precision of geometric connections and balanced weights, support the glass sphere both in the table and floor versions turned upside down, and pointing downwards in the hanging version. The functionality and appearance also match the diffuser perfectly. The transparent glass is blown into a shape derived from optical intelligence. Embossed horizontal stripes cover the light source, reduce glare and provide more even light dispersion. The device combines tradition and innovation, old know-how in the art of glassblowing with a future-oriented technological perspective. Atelier Oi's designs are always permeated with intelligence, quality, emotions, poetry, and especially respect for values such as sustainable development, ethical responsibility and production responsibility, which are the most important to Artemida. Glass and frame are any two elements joined together by a simple, easily reversible mechanical device; the optical system generates comfortable light with high efficiency, the diffuser is obtained in a single production process, all production and maintenance functions are calibrated to obtain a completely sustainable product. In this project, elegance, poetry and ethics are also characteristic features of Atelier Oi's work, capable of combining and integrating materials, vision and technology into a "form" that is the exact consequence of all these aspects and conveying great emotions in the process.
