Inspired by Schiffini

Schiffini is a Ligurian company founded by Enrico Schiffini in the mid-1920s to produce wooden furniture for ships built at La Spezia. Since the 1950s, the brand name has been widely known in the world of designer kitchens. With the first modular kitchens designed by Vico Magistretti, Schiffini has gained national and international recognition as a producer of high-quality kitchens characterized by design, careful selection of materials, innovative functions and solutions. Concept design and collaboration with influential designers such as Jasper Morrison, Alfredo Häberli, Alfonso Arosio, Giuliano Giaroli and Gitta Gschwendtner, Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, contributed to the company's success. In May 2016, Renato Goretta strengthened Schiffini's international footprint by acquiring the equity firm from a London investment fund. This move led to the opening of showrooms from Shanghai to Miami, London and Tel Aviv. In March 2020, the company was bought by the writing company Tocelli Cucine di Peccioli.

Schiffini and Magistretti, a successful partnership The history of Schiffini kitchen began in 1963 with the production of Prima, a modular wooden kitchen. Three years later, the company took a big step towards working with Vico Magistretti. The partnership between Schiffini and Magistretti resulted in Timo kitchen furniture, which was presented at the 8th Salone del Mobile in Milan in 1968. The collection of ash wood panels with a neutral finish is enlivened by soft, colored plastic profiles with a handle and alloy function. The hanging cabinets are characterized by double height and depth, which optimize the space. Many other projects followed Timo. The Arnia wall system uses a system of support posts equipped with a frame that allows for any arrangement of furniture, shelves and accessories. The Cina kitchen (still in production) is characterized by a handle hidden in the groove in the upper part of the door or in the lower part of the wall units. The Solaro kitchen has knurled handles resembling the steering wheels of a racing yacht. The Space System replaced traditional doors with large drawers. With its distinctive corrugated door, the Cinque Terre aluminum kitchen is still a favorite. Soviore is characterized by lacquered or wood paneled aluminum slats and large drawers.

Schiffini kitchens designed by contemporary designers a large table with benches, from which the project takes its name (mesa means table in Spanish). Pampa is a small wooden kitchen. Its designer replaced the classic door handle with a subtly curved slit in the veneer, which rises at the top and squeezes at the bottom, showing presence only through the line of shadows. It was designed for the Handmade event for Wallpaper 2010 and went into production in 2014. Jasper Morrison also designed the Schiffini kitchen, Lepic, a design that translates the Super Normal concept, on which all the work of the London designer is based, into a highly versatile modular system with endless variations in composition. Its basic and seemingly simple appearance is rich in detail, thoughtful combinations of various materials and endless composition variations. Fenix doors with natural oak edges alternate with open partitions. They are characterized by deliberately effective handles made of solid natural oak or painted metal with a cast iron look. The Schiffini Cuisine Catalog also includes One 12 by Alfonso Arosio and Giuliano Giaroli. The handle is replaced by the shape of the top edge of the door. Spezie, designed by Ludovic + Roberto Palomba, is characterized by linear shapes and anodized aluminum handles placed inside the door.
