INSPIRED BY CATELLANI & SMITH
Catellani & amp; Smith is an Italian company that designs and manufactures "glowing creations" under the influence of its founder and art director Enzo Catellani. Based in an old restored mill in the Bergamo hills, the company has always combined passion, design and high-quality materials. With a worldwide presence, Catellani & amp; Smith meets the needs of customers who share and appreciate the values of a love of design, quality and originality.
In Catellani & amp; Smith has a clear distinction between lamps and chandeliers that are mass produced and tailored to the demanding clientele. The latter type of execution is part of tailoring, a process that follows a well-defined design. The first step is to meet the client and deepen his expectations. After receiving all information from the client, the Catellani & amp; Smith meets to come up with the first ideas and possible implementations. This group includes both craftsmen who do the work with their own hands, and technology experts who study the design and technical aspects of lamps. After choosing a path, all designers discuss its feasibility and start by developing a prototype, a key moment in the creative process. After making sure that the prototype meets the expectations of both the client and the company, we proceed to the individual production of a unique piece.
Catellani indoor and outdoor lamps & amp; SmithCatellani & amp; Smith is known not only for lighting private spaces, but also for special lighting projects dedicated to churches, museums, art galleries, theaters and spaces where the light / shadow dialogue is especially felt. In addition to indoor lighting, a significant part of the brand's production is dedicated to outdoor lamps such as the More F, a torch-shaped lamp made of hand-formed glass and LED light. Or Medouse F, a table lamp for outdoor use in various sizes that can also be placed on the floor, in flower beds and at strategic points in the garden.
Among the various lamps created by the company and recognized as pieces of great artistic value, we remember 56 Petits Bijoux, a brass LED pendant lamp, known as pure "static motion". Its implementation is based on the concept of concentric circles that are formed on the surface of the water when a stone is thrown. The ball and wheel represent for Catellani the idea of perfection and infinity, which are reflected in such valuable items as this, which are the result of craftsmanship at the highest level. The Alchemie T is an alabaster and brass LED table lamp that explores the relationship between darkness and light. This small sculptural installation consists of two disks running in parallel on tracks, from which a strong interaction of light and shadow is released as they overlap to form a "home" eclipse. The stone base and alabaster discs make this mobile lamp / sculpture even more valuable.
Since 1989 Catellani & amp; Smith revolutionizes the concept of light Enzo Catellani founded Catellani & amp; Smith in 1989, after running a lamp shop. His constant observation of the product and the need for experimentation led him to his first creation, presented at the Ecology Fair in Frankfurt. Thanks to the remarkable success that Catellani & amp; Smith has benefited from the very beginning, Catellani & amp; Smith quit her job in the store to devote herself entirely to creating light points, most often made to measure, for her customers. Indoor and outdoor home spaces, museums, churches, events become places to face to show your creativity, which is also recognized by the installation of works like Macchina della Luce at Casa Battlò Antonio Gaudì in Barcelona in 2008 or featured the prestigious Wallpaper Award in 2012; Instead, in 2010 the iconic Fil de Fer, now available in table or ceiling versions, was selected to represent Made in Italy in the Italian pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo.
Since the 1990s, it has been a series of collections that will break through hearts (and eyes) of customers, even famous ones who love original and effective lighting. For example, in 2003, Claudio Baglioni asked Enzo Catellani to prepare a stage for the performance of O'Scià a Lampedusa, and then for a performance designed for the Petruzzelli Theater in Bari, to illuminate one of the famous singer's performances again. To date, there are dozens of iconic creations that VIPs, design newspaper editors and architects are asking for to illuminate spaces where light plays an equal role compared to installations and other works of art.
