INSPIRED BY BROKIS

The Brokis lighting brand was founded in the Czech Republic in 2006 by the entrepreneur and engineer Jan Rabell, who was convinced that contemporary design could play an important role in preserving the tradition of Czech blown glass. Brokis lamps, designed by Czech and international designers and artists - incl. Lucie Koldova, Dan Yeffet, Boris Klimek and the duo of Alfredo Chiaramonte and Marco Marin - combine glass blown by glass masters with other high-quality materials such as wood and hand-forged metal. This approach has brought the company international recognition and has earned it numerous awards both at home and abroad. Today Brokis employs one hundred employees and uses a sales network covering seventy countries around the world.

Brokis lamps: Czech tradition and modern technology The relationship between Jan Rabell and the world of lighting began in 1997 with the acquisition of Huta Janštejn Glass, a historic glass factory, founded in 1809 in the Vysocina region near Prague. Its aim was to contribute to the preservation of the glass-blowing tradition in the Czech Republic and Silesia, two regions whose borders later melted into today's Czech Republic. Historically, Czech crystal - clear, colorless glass that Czech glass blowers received back in the 16th century with greater stability and quality than Italian glass - was considered a valuable material on a par with gold.
After modernizing the factory, returning to its former glory and Reviving traditional glass-making techniques, Rabell founded Brokis. He built new Italian ovens, introduced new production procedures, abandoned some processes such as glass grinding and painting, and renewed others such as blowing, optical glass making and lacquered glass production, which is now one of the brand's hallmarks.
These ancient techniques have then been applied to contemporary designer lamps that combine mid-century charm with the boldness of new techniques. The Night Birds collection, designed by Boris Klimek, inspired by the freedom of birds in flight, uses sophisticated technology. It took two years to refine the melting of the glass in the form and its subsequent curvature, thanks to which the delicate nuances of the wings were obtained. The brand's constant technological research aims to make its production more sustainable. In this sense, the collaboration between Brokis and Huta Szkła Janštejn resulted in Brokisglass, a new decorative material available in fifteen colors, made of glass fragments from the production waste of both brands. Brokisglass was used to create geometric pendant lamps by Lenka Damova and Boris Klimek, whose round, oval or square geometric shape contrasts with the lively, almost sculptural composition of glass. It has also been used in the OVO and STRING table accessories and decorations collections for the hospitality and home sector.

Brokis: iconic lamps and new forms of light Among the latest Brokis releases are the Bonbori and Awa collections by Fumie Shibat and the Sfera hanging lamps by Lucie Koldova, artistic brand director since 2014. The Bonbori table lamp exudes a soft light that evokes traditional Japanese paper lanterns, and the Awa pendant lamp resembles a floating ball of air. Sfera is a ceiling light composed of an opal glass ball with a clean cut on top. The most representative Brokis product remains the Muffins table lamp designed by Lucie Koldove and Dan Yeffet. It features a sizable blown glass lampshade with soft curves, a solid wood base and a filament bulb, creating a striking effect.
Lucie Koldova and Dan Yeffet are also responsible for another famous Brokis lamp, Balloons, an intriguing family of table lamps. Their large volume is due to the blown glass and the elegant metal reflector floating inside. Technically, the effect is achieved by two independent glazings that give the impression of unity. Among Brokis bestsellers is Memory, a collection of wall and ceiling lamps designed by Boris Klimek. With inflated balloons and a rope switch mechanism, Memory awakens the imagination and brings back childhood memories.
