Metalarte is a Spanish family-owned business, based in Valencia and Barcelona that has been producing lighting since 1932. Despite its small size the company has become one of the most recognised lighting designers in Europe. Metalarte’s products have become recognised for their innovative design elements, use of modern materials, and careful attention to detail.

The company was founded by the Marti family in the early 20th century, by Jose María Martí Dunar, who began producing lighting fixtures in the family workshop in Mas de las Matas in the Vall de Uxo in 1932. He was joined by his son, Jose María Martí Illa, who developed the company into one of Spain’s leading manufacturers in the post-war period.

Metalarte’s unique products are produced through the collaboration of three generations of the Martí family. The company's creations combine traditional craftsmanship with modern materials and innovative design. Metalarte is strongly committed to the preservation of handmade artisanry which it has perfected through more than 80 years of experience.

Metalarte has a wide array of lighting products including pendant lights, table lamps, wall lamps, floor lamps, and outdoor lamp collections. The company often introduces new collections, such as the ALAS lighting collection which uses electrical components recycled from old planes, highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Metalarte’s diverse collections have gained worldwide recognition, having been showcased in the Venice Biennale, New York’s MOMA, Spain’s MNCAR, and the Vitra Design Museum. Metalarte was awarded a ‘premio nacional de diseño’ in 2000 and was nominated as one of Spain’s most important exporters in 2004.

In 2014, Metalarte established its US headquarters in Denver, Colorado. This expansion has helped the company gain a greater foothold in the American market, expanding their reach and introducing them to a new audience of consumers.

Metalarte is committed to promoting and teaching craftsmanship and design principles, and regularly works with many universities and art schools to offer internships and support the next generation of designers.

Today, with its three generations of design experience, Metalarte is dedicated to crafting lighting that is at once innovative, timeless and energy-efficient, perfect for both residential and commercial spaces.
