KARE Design GmbH also has its own stores in Munich, Regensburg and Vienna. These include the flagship store "KARE Kraftwerk" in Munich, which opened in 2015 with a 10,000 m² showroom, a contract furnishings studio and a restaurant with a roof terrace - all housed in a city-famous industrial monument. In 2015, the flagship store received the "Shops of the Year" award by the German Retail Trade Association. In Germany, the furniture trendsetter also sells its assortment through its own online store.

Participation in international trade fairs

KARE presents its worlds of furnishings and products at all major world furniture fairs such as Salone del Mobile in Milan, Objet & amp; Maison in Paris and imm in Cologne. In addition, the company organizes its own internal exhibitions for its B2B customers in the 3,000 m² showroom at the company's headquarters in Garching-Hochbrück.

Subsidiaries for contract equipment and fashion

By establishing a subsidiary KARE Objekt GmbH in 2016, the company has created a solid base for equipping commercial premises, from restaurants to modular residential units. In addition, the company runs two stores in Munich under the brand "Stierblut" and an online store with fashion trends.


Currently, 380 employees from 28 different countries work at the headquarters of KARE Design GmbH, while around 1,150 employees work at the locations around the world . Basic and advanced training is at the heart of staff development. As a provider of vocational training, the company is certified by the Chamber of Commerce, and about every tenth employee is an apprentice. The KARE Academy offers regular training for employees, business partners and franchisees.


The company's Garching headquarters are adjoined by a central logistics facility of approximately 30,000 m², supplemented by further external warehouses and a logistics center in Asia. Purchasing operations are also managed from headquarters, supported by purchasing offices and quality management in Eastern Europe and Asia.

The founders and their business idea

KARE Design GmbH was founded in 1981 by Jürgen Reiter and Peter Schönhofen. As owners and managing partners, they continue to manage the medium-sized enterprise to this day. Their personal daily commitment shapes our company, and at KARE we pride ourselves on being able to work in an unconventional and successful family business.

Two design lovers, Jürgen Reiter and Peter Schönhofen, founded KARE as students when they wanted to furnish the apartment they shared. Their passion for stylish furniture far exceeded the budget, but the founders of KARE had a ready-made solution to this problem. The brilliant design was elite and very expensive, so they just came up with their own. Their credo: furniture deserves great design at an attractive price and a bit of non-standard - after all, furnishing has to be fun.

Jürgen Reiter is responsible for project development and for a constant stream of inspiring furnishing ideas under the KARE brand. He travels the world 200 days a year to select products created by talented designers in craft workshops, ensuring that the worlds of KARE equipment are regularly filled with new life.

Peter Schönhofen supports the development of the company's international network and is responsible for global marketing. It monitors KARE stores around the world to make sure everything is in its place to ensure the satisfaction of KARE customers: from an inspiring furnishing idea to excellent service. As entrepreneurs, they share passion, curiosity and unlimited enthusiasm, guided by the principle "never be satisfied with what you already have".
