History of Hansgrohe and the origin of shower sets On June 15, 1901, Hans Grohe founded a metal spinning workshop in the small town of Schiltach in the Black Forest. Brass pots, switch parts and tin showers for the domestic bathroom
products that were then destined for a niche market spread to all German households in just a few years.
At that time, showers were a convenient alternative to bathtubs, and thus Hansgrohe became an industry specialist. However, in 1928, sheet metal showers became an alternative to overhead showers. 1953 marked a real revolution with the introduction of the Wallbar, a system that made it possible for the first time to install a shower at the desired height, a solution that is now considered standard in bathrooms all over the world.
When Hans Grohe died in 1955, his eldest son Hans Grohe jun. company management. In 1968, the younger brother Klaus joined. The merit of the latter was to raise topics related to environmental protection and sustainable development in the sanitary industry. These years are the beginning of cooperation with designers such as Hartmut Esslinger, Georg Spreng and Andreas Haug. Together with Esslinger - who later founded the Frog design studio - Klaus won the first Hansgrohe design award for the Tri-bel hand shower, which was the first to propose a color version of this product, with variants in red, blue, yellow and white brown. In 1977, Klaus Grohe took over the sole management of this international company and created the Hansgrohe brand. From today, Klaus is the honorary president, the family tradition is passed on to his sons Richard and Philippe Grohe, and the products of the Hansgrohe Group are distributed all over the world. Here are some of the most notable works: the luxury ocean liner Queen Mary 2 and the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai.
