Thanks to the aesthetics inherent in the brand's British roots, the products are recognized around the world and appreciated for pioneering use of materials and techniques. Founder and Title Creative Director Tom Dixon is a restless innovator who gained notoriety in the mid-1980s as an individualist, untrained designer with a line of welded emergency furniture. Working with the Italian giant Cappellini designed the widely appreciated "S" chair.

In the late 1990s, Tom became Habitat's Creative Director and rejuvenated the brand while retaining Terence Conran's vision of enriching everyday life through simple, modern design. In 2001, Tom received an OBE from Her Majesty the Queen for his contribution to British design. In 2014, he received the "Designer of the Year" award at Maison & Objet in Paris. In 2019, he received a silver medal for the best garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and in the same year he received the prestigious London Design Medal at the British Land Celebration of Design Awards.
