INSPIRED BY &TRADITION

Inspired by &Tradition

& Tradition is a Danish furniture company founded in 2010 by Martin Kornbek Hansen. The name & Tradition is inextricably linked to the company's vision where the present meets the past in a thoughtful, emotional and respectful way, allowing contemporary designers to connect with the works of great masters to shape the classics of the future. Furniture, lighting and home accessories & Tradition emphasize the relationship between craftsmanship, modern design, Nordic tradition and high quality. That is why the brand's collections juxtapose the work of great Danish designers such as Verner Panton, Arne Jacobsen, Flemming Lassen and Jørn Utzon with contemporary designers such as Norm Architects Sebastian Herkner, Luca Nichetto, Jaime Hayon and Samuel Wilkinson. Bought by the Danish brand Hay in 2016, & Tradition sells its collections through an international network while maintaining its Nordic roots. All products are built to last, using sustainable manufacturing processes and natural materials with the utmost respect for the planet.

& Tradition and re-editions of great Danish classics

An important part of & Tradition's work is the recovery of the original sketches of some of the most famous design icons - from Verner Panton's Flowerpot lamp, first produced in the late 1960s, to the Mayor Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen sofa, specially designed for the town hall in Søllerød near Copenhagen. In some cases, the company mass-produces them for the first time, making them available to a wide audience. Combining tradition and innovation, great Danish classics are designed for contemporary homes and spaces, while respecting one of the most fundamental principles of our time: sustainability. This aspect informs about the company's decision-making processes, production, projects and work ethics. & Tradition recognizes that formally impeccable designs alone do not create objects that will last over time. They must be made of durable materials in a circular process. & Tradition sources sustainable leather and sheepskin and uses Responsible Down Standard (RDS) feathers. The company eliminated all toxic chemicals, intensified its recycling system and increased the use of FSC® certified wood from sustainable sources, creating products with EU Ecolabel and Oeko-Tex® accredited materials.

Scandinavian design in new & Tradition collections

In addition to twentieth-century jewels, the Furniture, Lighting and Decoration & Tradition collections feature contemporary works by some of the most acclaimed contemporary designers, such as the Spaniard Jaime Hayon, Danish Space Copenhagen, the Swedish designer Sami Kallio and the Norwegian duo Anderssen & Voll. Everyone brings their cultural background and references to the Scandinavian DNA of the brand. Space Copenaghen has created Fly sofas inspired by Scandinavian design elements, such as a wooden slatted backrest, reinterpreting them with a sculptural and modern look. The Moor carpet series designed for & Tradition by Danish studio All the Way to Paris was inspired by the heather-covered hills of Scandinavia. The collection focuses on color depth, not graphic patterns, to create extraordinary stage effects. In the Palette Desk, Jaime Hayon transforms the concept of Alexander Calder's kinetic sculptures into a work surface stabilized by a metal structure and topped with other small tables, varying in shape, size, color and material. Luca Nichetto created Cloud, a family of single, double and triple sofas and pouffes, combining the Italian tradition of soft, enveloping cushions with the Danish tradition of sofas with strictly defined forms. Sebastian Herkne's Sillon series of mirrors is inspired by the French Art Deco movement. The name, meaning "groove" in French, refers to a frame made of welded steel bars that contrast with the smooth, reflective surface of the mirror. Nærvær, which means "presence" in Danish, is the name chosen for the minimalist table designed by Norm Architects as an invitation to conscious presence, whether you are participating in a conversation or over a meal, creating intimate connections. The discreet design of the round base in powder coated steel and the cylindrical pin supporting the round or square laminate top allows users to focus on space and interact with each other.
